My family and I are currently on our yearly trip to Chappaquiddick. *cue the Ted Kennedy jokes*. Last year was the first time we came up here. It was the first time I ever felt relaxation on a vacation. All the gratitude to our friends, the Fagers, for introducing us to this oasis. It’s a magical place. It feels like the end of the world and yet, each time I walk away from it feeling like a new beginning.
To that theme, I wanted to share a piece of ambient music with you all. It’s 20 minutes long. Why 20 minutes? When I studied Transcendental Meditation, 20 minutes was the suggested length. That’s why I’m calling this series of music “Functional Music”. My hope is that it will be of value to you in a different way than most art… I want you to use it. Maybe this is my response to consumer culture; maybe this is an excuse to make something almost 10x the length of a pop song. Regardless, we all need to slow down a bit…speaking to myself the most here.
If you want to download it for free, you can below. If you want to become a paid subscriber because of this, you can. If you want to buy the album via Bandcamp, there’s a link below. On Bandcamp, you can pay what you want…$1,$20…totally up to you.
Why not put it on Spotify? A 20 minute piece of music is viewed as the same as a 2 minute piece of music on that platform. The “stream” metric is measured in clicks; not time spent. Additionally, I want these to be more personal. I don’t want the world to have access. I want to limit supply not in an attempt to drive demand and increase price but because I just don’t see these releases as anything but a letter to those who are here and want to be here. Think of this like “farmer’s market music”. I just made this and want to share it.
I hope it’s of value to you. Enjoy.
Grateful
