This was a really interesting topic and I loved the thought provoking discussion. The shelf life of a pop star. I’ve never really recognized that it’s the aging and the flaws that we are drawn to…the human.
Just my opinion, but I think this journey ahead may be further along than you or I would like. Like your earlier discussion - who are we trying to appeal to? The people, the critic, or other musicians? The “people” are less connected to their musicians than they were decades ago. We have moved away from music videos where we saw our musicians. We no longer go to a store to buy our music where we hold a CD and pull out the insert to see more pictures or written notes. For those of us that had that experience, we still have nostalgia to draw on and may seek information about the artists we enjoy. But for people growing up in the digital age, that’s a foreign concept. They just like what they like and don’t seem to have interest in anything beyond that. I had a younger friend say something about the band One Republic and through conversation realized they had no idea how many were in the group, what they looked like, where they were from, etc. Essentially they didn’t care - they just liked listening. So I think younger people have been trained for the next phase of AI and will embrace avatar artists.😳
